An amazingly gifted, future MMA star has emerged out of Kansas. Ivey Nixon is currently 5-1 with all of his wins ending by stoppage. I caught up with him after his latest win at Victory FC

Nixon told me the best attribute of his game, “My best attribute is my tenaciousness. I am fearless and my signature is fighting people in mount from the bottom. I’m not scared of anything, I would rather die than lose. I always put everything on the line and give 100% in all of my strikes. It’s a dangerous style, but that’s who I want to be all the time (explosive).”

He talked to me about his thoughts on going pro, “I’m definitely excited and want to get to the UFC as fast as possible. With this being said, you can expect me not to avoid anybody. I was going to go pro after my last fight last week, but I came into the fight with the wrong game plan, which was ready to stand up, little did I know he was a wrestler. I’m going to defend my title in December, so I have time to work on my ground game. After that, I’m going pro.”

Nixon shared with me some of his goals for 2015-2016, “I want to travel to a lot of training camps. I want to be on the Ultimate Fighter, and finally, I want to make my UFC debut.”

He walked me through a typical day, “A typical day of training is: I wake up, run to the gym, do my footwork drills/abs, work on some high intensity shadow boxing, hard body shots to the bag, go home, take a nap, run back to the gym, hold mitts for people, flexibility training for kicks, kicks on bag, Muay Thai and then jiu-jitsu with some rolling at the end.”

Nixon told me about some of the fighters he looks up to growing up, “Only one of my fighting heroes is real. Manny Pacquiao is my hero, the rest of them are anime characters. I’m so inspired by them and want to be as great as them. My favorite is luffy from one piece because he is so amazing and I want to reach his level. It’s unconventional, but it motivates me to do things people can’t even imagine possible, and that’s why I’ll be the greatest of all time.”

He shared with me his favorite part about being a fighter, “My favorite part about being a fighter is that I can let all my emotions go in the ring. I can really test my will and my strength. Fighting to me has nothing to do with the belt or champion. Even if I had a billion dollars, I would still be unsatisfied because the standards for myself are depressing but motivating, the curse of someone great.

Ivey Nixon mentioned above that he will be the greatest of all time. With that being said, make sure you keep updated with his career. You can like his Facebook page at Ivey “Hardstyle” Nixon, or you can follow him on Instagram @TheRealVeyNixon.
