MANILA, Philippines – Roy Doliguez has the opportunity to become the fifth Filipino fighter to win a world title in mixed martial arts (MMA) as he competes for the inaugural ONE Championship strawweight title against Dejdamrong Sor Amnuaysirichoke.

The five-round championship clash was announced during the “Valor of Champions” event on Friday, April 24 and is set to be part of the “Warrior’s Quest” card in Singapore on May 22.

Doliguez (6-1) is a retired professional boxer who captured the WBO Asia Pacific light flyweight belt in September 2002 and unsuccessfully challenged Fernando Montiel for the WBO super flyweight championship in January 2003.

The 33-year-old native of Malungon, Sarangani made the transition to MMA in 2011 and had his first 5 bouts under the Universal Reality Combat Championship banner, where he defeated the likes of Leo Occena, Alvin Ramirez, Lito Adiwang and Franklin Donglay.

Doliguez joined Pacific Xtreme Combat in 2014, edging out Team Lakay’s Jerome Wanawan via split decision in March before settling the score with Dennis Salazar by unanimous verdict eight months later.

On the other hand, Sor Amnuaysirichoke (4-0) is a three-time Lumpinee Muay Thai world champion who fought in over 300 kickboxing matches.

The 36-year-old “Kru Rong” made his MMA debut under ONE Championship last year, winning his first 4 assignments by either knockout or submission.

Facing a Pinoy combatant is not new to Sor Amnuaysirichoke as he locked horns with a Filipino fighter this past December when he knocked out Rene Catalan with a solid knee in the first round.

ONE: Warrior’s Quest, which takes place at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, is headlined by a lightweight title tilt between reigning champion Shinya Aoki and Koji Ando.
