EXPLOSIVE LEG KICKS
BEHOLD THE POWER OF THE MUAY THAI KICK !!
Damage and injury from low kicks degrade the leg’s weight bearing capability, and therefore, balance and footwork are also compromised. As your mobility becomes increasingly weakened, you forfeit control of range and timing to your opponent.
Leg kicks not only diminish the effectiveness of your kicks and knees, but also punches and elbows. With an injured lead leg, it becomes to difficult to “sit down” on punches. With a damaged rear leg, it becomes difficult to push-off the ground and generate torque.
Properly placed leg kicks will also cause the thigh muscles to immediately swell and stiffen up. This makes it difficult to lift your leg to check subsequent kicks and fade away from strikes. It also lessens your ability to use that damaged leg for leg kicks to your opponent.
There many major nerves running through the thigh which make leg kicks especially painful. Even the toughest fighters will be a little more tentative and gun shy after catching a few hard shins to the thigh.
Hence, leg kicks are the main weapon in the Muay Thai arsenal.
Muay Thai
Muay Thai is a combat sport of Thailand that uses stand-up striking along with various clinching techniques. This physical and mental discipline which includes combat on shins is known as “the art of eight limbs” because it is characterized by the combined use of fists, elbows, knees, shins, being associated with a good physical preparation that makes a full-contact fighter very efficient. Muay Thai became widespread internationally in the twentieth century, when practitioners defeated notable practitioners of other martial arts.
