Headong kumdo is a traditional sword martial art from Japan. It focuses on weapons as opposed to hand to hand combat.

In Judo its called Dojo. What is the place where practicing Kung fu is called?
Literal translation would be ‘Hall’. This refers to the place or school where one is instructed in the Chinese Martial Arts.

Where was Aikido founded?
Aikido is a soft martial art developed by Morihei Ueshiba. This art focuses on joint locks and throws.

Enter Kyle Funakoshi, a martial arts instructor based in Milpitas, California. He grew up in Hawaii, where he started training in shotokan techniques when he was 5. His sensei was his father, Kenneth Funakoshi, a man who’s no stranger to the pages of Black Belt — he appeared on the cover of the June 1992 issue.

Kyle Funakoshi and his family moved to San Jose, California, 24 years ago so they could administer their association’s many dojo from a more centralized location. Since then, they’ve built a reputation for offering the highest-quality instruction in the Japanese art.

Some people can’t wait for the advanced techniques. Advanced techniques they assume, are “the good stuff.” This basic stuff I am learning now is just a waste of time, I want the advanced stuff where you really learn to beat the opponent easily with the secret and advanced parts of the system.

Nothing could be further from the truth. Advanced techniques are for advanced people. They are not necesarily advanced or better techniques, but they are meant for people who already dominate the basics. In other words, knowing advanced techniques don’t make you advanced… advanced techniques are for the advanced.
